Our History

Brands in the Nestlé Waters Canada Family

Springs have always been gathering places. People believed that spring water – surfacing from underground, where it was purified by sand and rocks, to meet the light of day – was the cleanest source. Throughout history, mankind has settled near springs. The vessels in which they carried water to their dwellings – whether in hides or earthen jugs – were the earliest forms of bottled water.

Being tried and true doesn’t happen overnight. So many of our brands have long stood proud of serving consumers for more than 100 years. These brands are steeped in a heritage of quality water, consumer trust and historic places. These brand names really mean something to people.

Nestlé Waters Canada is affiliated with Nestlé Waters North America which, in turn, is a division of Paris-based Nestlé Waters, the world's largest bottled water company. Nestlé Waters serves customers in 130 countries with 75 well-known bottled water brands and is, a subsidiary of the world's largest food company, Nestlé S.A., based in Vevey, Switzerland.

With the belief that bottled water would become even more popular as an alternative to traditional drinks, we began to seek other high-quality brand name waters with regional followings and a rich heritage. The first domestic bottled water brand Nestle Waters North America added to its portfolio was Poland Spring® Brand Natural Spring Water, first bottled in Maine in 1845.

Our history begins in 1970 when our company was formed to market Perrier® Sparkling Natural Mineral Water in Canada, a beverage that launched a generation of bottled water drinkers. Perrier changed what people chose to drink and started a bottled water culture, appealing to active, health-minded individuals. Of course, Perrier's history goes back much farther to ancient times when people began to prize the spring's waters for their crisp taste and replenishing flavor.

We added other national brands to our lineup: Nestlé Pure Life® Natural Spring Water, which comes from deep aquifers on our properties in Aberfoyle, Ontario, and Hope, British Columbia, and Montclair® Natural Spring Water, which also emanates from springs on our properties in Canada. Our spring water products come from spring sources that are honoured for their natural features and good-tasting water.

Today, we have a rich selection of domestic and international bottled water brands, each with their own distinctive character, sources and heritage.
