Company donates $22,000 worth of public spaces recycling technology

CHILLIWACK, British Columbia – The City of Chilliwack and Nestlé Waters Canada, the country’s marketshare-leading manufacturer and distributor of healthy beverage choices, today announced that the Company has donated $22,000 worth of public spaces recycling infrastructure for use in the City’s historic downtown core.

Recycling and waste bin technologies, featuring large pictograms on each container to help consumers determine where to deposit their recyclables and garbage, were installed in early June along Main Street and Yale Road.

“The public spaces recycling infrastructure donated by Nestlé Waters Canada is a valuable contribution to our downtown,” said Sharon Gaetz, Mayor, City of Chilliwack. “This will make recycling even easier in our community, help keep downtown Chilliwack clean and enable us work towards our sustainability objectives as a community.”

“We are a very proud member of the Chilliwack business community,” said John Zupo, President, Nestlé Waters Canada. “The establishment of public spaces recycling in the downtown core will help to put the City at the forefront of environmental sustainability in this province, while keeping it clean for all to enjoy.”

“The donation of public spaces recycling infrastructure and street furniture further enhances Chilliwack’s historic downtown BIA as a destination for local residents as well as visitors,” said Kathy Funk, Executive Director, Downtown Chilliwack Business Improvement Association. “This donation will encourage everyone to help keep historic downtown Chilliwack cleaner as well as spend more time with our merchants.”

Public spaces recycling involves the collection of recyclable materials, including plastic beverage containers, in public spaces such as sports parks, arenas, cultural facilities, streetscapes, transit stops, schools, convenience stores/gas stations, bars and restaurants.
