Nestlé Waters Canada ends consideration of Victoria Road site: Company plans to investigate other sites in Puslinch Township
PUSLINCH, Ontario -- Nestlé Waters Canada, Canada’s marketshare-leading manufacturer and distributor of healthy beverage choices, today announced it has decided to cease any further consideration of 4295 Victoria Road South as a possible backup source of water for its bottling operations.
After considerable hydrological investigation, Nestlé Waters Canada has concluded that there is some ambiguity associated with the source of ground water obtained from wells drilled at the Victoria Road site. A surface water divide, separating the Lake Erie basin from the Lake Ontario basin, exists on the property. And, while the surface water divide is clear, there is a lack of hydrological clarity as to the ground water divide. The Company was unable to confirm the source of ground water on the property. According to the principles of the Great Lakes Charter Annex 2001, Nestlé Waters Canada is only permitted to draw water from the same basin that it produces its product from.
Nestlé Waters Canada will now begin the process of investigating the feasibility of other sites in the area. The Company remains convinced that the Puslinch Township/Wellington County area features underground aquifers that will provide excellent quality water.
“To continue with this siting would have been inconsistent with our efforts to continue to meet and exceed strict local, provincial and federal regulatory requirements,” explained Gail Cosman, President, Nestlé Waters Canada. “We will now begin the process of investigating other sites in the area, as we are confident that the Puslinch Township/Wellington County area features underground aquifers that will provide an excellent source of quality water.”
Testing at the Victoria Road site took place during the month of July 2008.
