Hope and Puslinch score 100% following NSF International inspection
DISTRICT OF HOPE, British Columbia and TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH, Ontario – Nestlé Waters Canada, Canada’s marketshare-leading manufacturer and distributor of healthy beverage choices, today announced that its bottling facilities have achieved Excellence in Manufacturing standing from the Canadian Bottled Water Association (CBWA).
As a condition of CBWA membership, the Company must pass an annual, un-announced plant inspection administered by an independent, internationally-recognized organization. This inspection audits quality and testing records, reviews all areas of plant operation from source through finished product and checks adherence to the CBWA Model Code and its code of ethics. The CBWA code of ethics adheres to a philosophy of sustainable development, environmental protection and collaboration with local communities in the management of the water resource.
A second condition of membership is that bottlers pass an annual water analysis administered by an independent government-certified laboratory and regularly conduct microbial testing by qualified personnel.
The CBWA Model Code is a quality assurance program with more extensive requirements than federal and provincial authorities demand. Beyond federal and provincial regulations and regular annual inspections, CBWA bottlers like Nestlé Waters Canada are subject to a third level of regulation involving independent inspections, water testing and analysis, and adherence to the CBWA Model Code.
“This achievement confirms that we produce bottled water at a very high quality level, which should give our customers added confidence when purchasing our products,” said Greg Chorpitta, Plant Manager, Guelph, Nestlé Waters Canada. “Last year was yet another very active year in our journey along the Nestlé Continuous Improvement path. This recognition is just one more example of the positive progress we are making in our organization.”
“Like last year, we are very pleased with the results of this independent review of our operations,” explained Kevin Thorburn, Plant Manager, Hope, Nestlé Waters Canada. “NSF International, which carried out the inspection on behalf of CBWA, audited our operations in Hope during a typical day in our manufacturing facilities. Our single-minded focus on quality improvement at Nestlé Waters made for a very busy 2014, but this award illustrates how beneficial that training is – and how deserving of this recognition our employees are for their commitment to quality, day-in and day-out.”
“On behalf of CBWA, I want to congratulate the Nestlé Waters Canada team on, once again, achieving this very high manufacturing standard at both of its bottling plants in Canada,” said Elizabeth Griswold, Executive Director, CBWA. “Our members produce the highest quality bottled water in the world and Nestlé Waters Canada typifies what consumers can expect when they purchase bottled water produced in Canada that conforms with the CBWA Model Code.”
About the Canadian Bottled Water Association
The Canadian Bottled Water Association (CBWA) is the authoritative source of information about all types of bottled waters. Founded in 1992, CBWA's membership includes Canadian bottlers, distributors and suppliers. CBWA is committed to working with Health Canada, which regulates bottled water as a packaged food product, and provincial governments to set stringent standards for safe, high quality bottled water products. Additionally, CBWA requires member bottlers to adhere to the CBWA Bottled Water Model Code, which mandates additional standards and practices, which in some cases, are more stringent than federal and provincial regulations. A key feature of the CBWA Bottled Water Model Code is an annual unannounced plant inspection by an independent, third-party organization.
