The following statement is attributed to Andreanne Simard, Natural Resources Manager, Nestlé Waters Canada:

January 27, 2017 (Guelph, ON) – We believe that when it comes to accessing quality water, the needs of community residents in Centre Wellington comes first. Since identifying that the Centre Wellington provided an anonymous counteroffer to the Middlebrook Water Bottling Co. site on August 19, 2016, Nestlé Waters Canada has engaged to identify concrete proposals to help the Township’s address the long-term quality and quantity of groundwater. This included a letter on September 30, 2016 and a presentation to Township Council on December 12, 2016.

It was our hope that through collaboration and a thoughtful dialogue, a partnership concept would be identified that the Township, Elora residents and Nestlé Waters Canada could agree upon. That is why we proposed to work with Centre Wellington representatives and residents on a made in Centre Wellington solution which fully protected community’s long-term access to reliable drinking water, as well as the surrounding environment.

The Township of Centre Wellington and Nestlé Waters Canada agree upon many of the same principles. We support the Ontario Government’s two-year moratorium on water permits. We agree that access to quality water for residents of Centre Wellington is paramount. We recognize that the long-term sustainability of water is non-negotiable. We believe in creating conditions for shared and sustainable prosperity to drive the economy of our province and our local communities. And we know that investment in science, including Centre Wellington’s participation the GRCA’s Scoped Tier 3 water quantity study, is vital for evidence-based water resource management.

We respect the position of the Township, and to this end, we remain committed to work with our communities to ensure the long-term sustainability of water for generations to come. We will continue to discuss our commitment to these principles with local residents at our Elora community office hours.
