Company reduces Puslinch, Hillsburgh draws by 10% until further notice
TOWN OF ERIN and TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH, Ontario – Nestlé Waters Canada, Canada’s marketshare-leading manufacturer and distributor of healthy beverage choices, today announced that, effective immediately, it will voluntarily reduce its water-taking by 10% until further notice in support of yesterday’s declaration by Grand River Conservation Authority that Level 1 drought conditions are occurring across the Grand River watershed.
This GRCA declaration represents the second such occasion in the last five years that the local conservation authority has issued such a statement – and the second time Nestlé Waters has voluntarily reduced its water-taking. The last event occurred during the early Summer of 2007.
“While the total local bottled water industry, including Nestlé Waters Canada, represents less than 0.0053% of the entire watershed and our Company draws slightly more than 1% of the Mill Creek sub-watershed at this time of year, we are not a large water drawer, but we believe it is important that all industrial water users do what they can to help alleviate the situation when drought conditions occur,” explained Don DeMarco, Natural Resources Manager, Nestlé Waters Canada. “We will work with GRCA staff to voluntarily manage our operations accordingly until further notice.”
