Nestlé Waters Canada donates $4,657 worth of water to help Canadian Red Cross support Toronto residents
Company has donated $12,065 worth of bottled water to Red Cross in 2011
TORONTO, Ontario – Nestlé Waters Canada, Canada’s marketshare-leading manufacturer and distributor of healthy beverage choices, today announced that it has donated $4,657 worth of bottled water to the Canadian Red Cross to assist its efforts in support of Torontonians suffering from de-hydration as a result of extreme weather conditions.
About 24,192 bottles of water are being delivered to the Red Cross’ distribution centre in Toronto, where it will be used to help people in need of water during heat alerts. The Red Cross in Toronto deploys community outreach teams who visit areas in the city with high concentrations of vulnerable people, including the homeless, those with mental health conditions and addiction issues as well as the elderly and the very young. The organization also delivers bottled water to community agencies that work with vulnerable groups.
The Company has donated 66,528 bottles of water to the Red Cross this year valued at $12,065.
“I want to thank Nestlé Waters Canada for this generous donation,” said Tom Windebank, Regional Manager, Disaster Management, Toronto and Peel Region, Canadian Red Cross. “The Company has been very responsive to our support needs right across the country this year.”
“The assistance provided by Nestlé Waters this Summer, in particular, has been very much appreciated by the Red Cross,” added Mr. Windebank. “Whether indirectly through its work with Project Water or directly as a result of its national sponsorship with us, the Company has come through, time and time again in 2011.”
Nestlé Waters Canada regularly donates bottled water to municipalities and other organizations in need during local, provincial and national emergencies, largely through its national relationship with the Canadian Red Cross as official bottled water sponsor.
Bottled water donated by the Company to the Red Cross this year has assisted 15,479 people in northern Alberta, including the community of Slave Lake, cope with forest fires; 3,500 residents of Northern Ontario, including the community of Sandy Lake, who had to evacuate the region because of forest fires; and 3,180 people in Saskatchewan, 44 residents in northern British Columbia and 4,365 people in Manitoba – all of them forced from their homes by flooding.
Over the last ten years, the Company has donated millions of bottles of water during floods in Manitoba, New Brunswick and Saskatchewan, forest fires in British Columbia and northern Ontario and boil-water advisories and other potable water challenges across Canada.
