Company reduces Puslinch well draw by 20% until further notice
TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH, Ontario – Nestlé Waters Canada, Canada’s marketshare-leading manufacturer and distributor of healthy beverage choices, today announced that, effective immediately, it will voluntarily reduce its water-taking by 20% until further notice in support of today’s declaration by Grand River Conservation Authority that Level 2 drought conditions are occurring in the Mill Creek sub-watershed.
This GRCA declaration represents the fourth such occasion in the last five years that the local conservation authority has issued such a statement – and the fourth time Nestlé Waters has voluntarily reduced its water-taking. The last three events occurred in July and April 2012 and during the early Summer of 2007.
“While we represent somewhere between 1 and 4% of all water-drawing in the Mill Creek sub-watershed – depending on the time of year -- and the total local bottled water industry, including ourselves, represents less than 0.0053% of the entire Grand River watershed, we believe it is highly important that all water users do what they can to help alleviate the situation when drought conditions occur,” explained Don DeMarco, Natural Resources Manager, Nestlé Waters Canada. “We have put plans in place to effectively manage our business through this drought period while continuing to fully respect the natural conditions we operate in.”
